SSS – BEE Yourself BEEutiful

I have MANY hobbies, one of which I love watching videos of people decorating cookies. Some day, I will take a chance a try my hand but I have followed a beautiful decorate called SweetAmbs for years. And while browsing one night, I cam across one of her beautiful cookies and I was totally inspired! It was her Decorated Bee Cookies. So I had to make a card inspired by these regal and delicious looking treats.

I started by using SSS Cardstock in Soft Navy. I then had a stitched square die that I cut out two sizes to use as a layer. Once I had enough cut out, I went to work using the Tonic Nuvo Gilded Flakes. Have you ever worked with these? While they are BEAUTIFUL, they sure are a mess! I like to work in an old cardboard box to help contain the easily blown away gold.

In order to adhere the flakes, I got out my Ranger Sticky Embossing Powder. This works just like a embossing powder in that you use versamark ink (or any clear sticky inky), sprinkle the sticky embossing powder onto it and heat it. It will remain sticky until you re heat it or let it dry over time. I laid the larger of the squares down and began pressing my ink pad onto them. Once I had them dusted with powder and heated, I laid them in a shallow box (I love using SSS card kit boxes, they are the perfect depth!). Then I got to work. very slowly and making sure not to heavy breath I pinched flakes out and pounced them into the sticky inked squares. I then used my finger to press the flakes all over until completely covered. It took me about 15 minutes to complete this part.

I then used some Square Foam to pop up the smaller blue square onto the gilded square. I then used SSS Small Hexagon Die and cut out a few using a light blue cardstock. After that, I began to assemble my card, trying to create that geometrical pattern of a honey comb. (I didn’t have hexagon dies handy other wise I would have used that shape over square). I then glued the die cuts on to add more dimension. Lastly, I used the SSS BEE Yourself stamp and used Princess Gold Ranger Embossing Powder on the Soft Navy cardstock.

I really love being inspired by things outside of cardmaking! It makes it so fun! How about you, where do you find inspiration?
